How HiveFlow Started

I’m Dylan, the owner and pest technician behind HiveFlow Pest & Weed Management. I didn’t originally plan on a career in pest control.

After more than six years working at a gold mine, my position was made redundant when the contract was reduced. The timing wasn’t great - I was about to marry my wife, Emma. After our wedding, I took a job manufacturing rock bolts for underground mining in Bassendean.

About six months later, my father in-law, who was managing Scientific Pest Management at the time, asked if I’d ever considered pest control. I didn’t even realise pest control could be a career. The work I was doing had become repetitive, so I decided to give it a go.

It turned out to be one of the best career decisions I could have made.

I enjoyed the variety straight away. One day could be completely different from the next, particularly working across commercial sites. I completed my pest management qualifications and went on to work across commercial pest control, mine sites, offshore facilities, bird management and other specialised pest management work.

When Scientific Pest Management became part of Allpest, I joined the Allpest team and spent around six years working across Western Australia. That included servicing mine sites and commercial properties, along with travelling throughout WA and interstate for cargo ship treatments. In 2020, I was proud to be named Technician of the Year among a team of around 40 technicians.

I later joined Biofume and spent three years working on a fly-in fly-out roster at the Wheatstone gas facility near Onslow, eventually becoming a supervisor. When that team was reduced, I moved into quarantine work on Barrow Island, inspecting vessels and cargo entering the island and working on pest treatment and eradication programs.

After more than 10 years in pest management, I kept coming back to something I had wanted to do for years — start my own business.

That became HiveFlow Pest & Weed Management.

I wanted to take the experience I’d built across residential, commercial, mining and quarantine environments and use it to provide a straightforward local pest control service. No unnecessary upselling or one-size-fits-all treatments. Just take the time to identify the problem, explain the options clearly and provide the treatment I believe is right for the property.

HiveFlow is still a young business, but it’s backed by years of hands-on pest management experience. My aim is simple: build a local business that people are comfortable calling again and recommending to others.
